Suspension culture conditions such as growth regulator, phosphate, yeast elicitor, and cold stress were tested to examine the effects on essential oil production of Mentha spicata cells. Seleceted conditions for the production of esseitial oil were 2 §·/§¤ NAA among growth regulators, 0.73 mM phosphate, and 150 §·/§¤ yeast extract as an elicitor. Moreover, the product turnover rate of major flavor components of spearmint oil, carvone, was the highest when kinetin, yeast elicitor and cold stress were treated at the second stage culture.
